Adoption can be many things for a birth mother -- emotional, sad, dramatic, even heartbreaking, and we've seen it all on Oxygen's docu-series, I'm Having Their Baby. But there's another theme that has been present in all of the episodes, and it's the best one yet: they all have happy endings.

During the season finale, we met Megan, a 21-year-old pregnant with her first child. She was very sure of her choice to place her unborn daughter up for adoption -- she had plans to finish college and go into the military. Some hesitation from the birth father and some tension between Megan and her mother (who wanted her to keep the baby), almost derailed Megan's plans for adoption, but after her daughter was born, her plans ended up changing anyway: Megan decided to keep the baby, and she couldn't be happier with her choice.

Lindsay was the second birth mom in the season finale, and her story had a twist of its own: twins! After the birth of her son Eli four years earlier, Lindsay realized that being a single mom with one child was hard enough. When she finally decided on adoption, she announced her plan to do a home birth, but only if she was going to receive a lot of support from friends and family -- and the adoptive parents. The successful home birth brought Lindsay closer together with the adoptive family, and she was thrilled with the sense of community the adoption gave her.

All of your relationships are important when you're pregnant, but this week's episode of Oxygen's I'm Having Their Baby deals with the one that can be a definite game changer in a birth mother's decision-making process: the relationship you have with the father of your baby.

First, we meet Sarah, a high school sophomore who is pregnant by her ex-boyfriend, Gage. Though the couple was together when Sarah discovered she was pregnant, they soon began fighting nonstop, and she broke it off. However, she still has to cope with whether she wants him involved, and Gage's strained relationship with Sarah's father only adds to the tension.

In this episode, we also meet Nicol, a single mother of three who has already placed a child for adoption, but is now pregnant again with another child. The father of her baby is Lance, a guy Nicol considers "immature and irresponsible." Along with an unsupportive family, Nicol also has to deal with the pressure of Lance wanting to raise the baby with her, even though she doesn't think that's a good idea.

When you're a birth mom, the most important decision you make for your child is who will become "mom and dad." The fourth episode of Oxygen's I'm Having Their Baby focused on the relationships that can develop between birth moms and adoptive families.

The first birth mom we met during this episode is Brandalynn (above), a 20-year-old mother of one with a daughter on the way. Her adoptive parents, Kim and Brian, came to all of her prenatal appointments with her and ever came to the hospital for the birth. Brandalynn even said that she knew "from the second I saw them that they were going to be the people I was going to choose." But despite truly loving the couple and not wanting to disappoint them, she still worried about changing her mind, saying, "I hope I don't look back."

Mercedes, the other birth mother in the episode, had a similarly close relationship with her prospective adoptive parents as well. They all seemed exceptionally close during a meeting with Mercedes social worker -- Pamela (the adoptive mother) mentioned that she and Mercedes would text every single day, even if it was just to say good morning. But since Mercedes and her boyfriend/father of her baby, Mikey, were still incredibly close to one another, she too wondered if she would come to regret her decision to place her soon-to-be-daughter up for adoption with her adoptive family.

Birth moms face a lot of tough decisions when it comes to placing their babies for adoption, and last night's episode of Oxygen's I’m Having Their Baby highlighted one of them: figuring out the birth plan.

One of the birth moms featured, Jamie, already the mother of three, first raised the issue during one of her "diary cam" sessions, reading questions off of a list given to her by her adoption agency, such as, "How much time do you want to spend with the baby?" and "Do you want to adoptive parents to see the baby in the hospital?" Questions like those really made Jamie struggle with her choice, stating, "It just makes it so real."

The other birth mom, Sydney, also had a difficult time coming to terms with her birth plan, especially after her labor only lasted three hours (um, lucky!). After her daughter was born, Sydney commented on how -- since it all happened so fast -- she really didn't feel like she had times to come to terms with the birth, or the choice she was making. Compounded by the fact that part of Sydney's birth plan involved her pumping breast milk for her baby for months after the adoption was final (a request of the adoptive parents), Sydney's birth plan made her decision difficult as well...

Last night, Oxygen's new six-part docu-series, I’m Having Their Baby, told the story of Amanda and Mariah, the two latest moms-to-be preparing to place their babies for adoption. As if it isn't a hard enough decision, the episode highlighted all the background noise from family and friends that the moms had to face.

Amanda, age 28, had to cope with her sister who wanted to adopt Amanda's baby herself -- an offer Amanda declined, which naturally caused some serious family tension. It didn't help that the prospective adoptive parents were a gay couple which was an issue for Amanda's devoutly religious friends...
